I tell you, even though he will not get up and give you the bread because of friendship, yet because of your shameless audacity he will surely get up and give you as much as you need. Luke 11:8 (NIV)
“Jesus, you pray all the time…teach us to pray. You seem to be pretty good at it” the disciples conversed with Jesus. The next section is known as “The Lord’s Prayer.” But, it’s rather unfortunate that we stop there because Jesus doesn’t stop there. He goes on to say without skipping a breath what kind of prayer is worth praying. Different versions of the Bible record the Greek word for persistence differently, however, I think the New International Version wins this contest because it most accurately catches the surprising message about how we should pray that Jesus is trying to convey…we should pray with shameless audacity!
Every year I make new year’s resolutions. As I’ve looked back over the past 6 or 7 year’s worth of resolutions, I’ve noticed how achievable my goals are. Most would say that’s a good thing! But is it? How shamelessly audacious are my prayers, goals, and desires? I hate to say it, but, is my God too small? I mean, am I praying bold, outrageous, “only God can do this” kinda prayers? The topic of my prayers expose the size of my faith in God.
How about you? How big, bold, and audacious are your prayers?
